From March, we have the lovely Kristen Kizer joining the Pura Vida family as our newest nutritionist!
Here's what Kristen has to say about herself:
" Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I lived in a variety of places in the U.S. before moving to Canberra in April 2019. I have been a U.S. registered dietitian since September 2012 and a certified fitness instructor since 2010. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in Human Nutrition and am presently seeking to become an Australian Accredited Practising Dietitian.
My love for nutrition started as a kid reading nutrition labels on cereal boxes, and grew as I entered athletics. I wondered what made all the food I ate and what happened to this food once inside my body. After four years of university where I competed in track and field, I started a career in coaching. I soon realized that as much as I loved sport, my true passion was in nutrition, so I returned to school to become a dietitian.
As a dietitian, I spent six years working in the wellness department of the number one hospital in Texas. In Houston, I did nutrition counseling for diabetes prevention and management, weight loss, eating disorders and ante-natal care. I also had the wonderful opportunity of doing sports nutrition with Houston's professional soccer team, professional ballet company and Rice University athletics.
My background in wellness helps me focus on the whole person, and I promote long-term solutions, not quick weight loss plans. My goal is to help clients establish a healthy relationship with food and give them freedom from diet cycles and unnecessary food rules."
Kristen will be working from our Kingston location on Tuesdays from 8 am to 6 pm. I reckon the best way to get to know her is to book in an appointment :)
